Why we use UPS ground shipping services
UPS is a legal, authorized shipper of pepper spray products. Since pepper and defense aerosol sprays are considered a hazardous material by U.S. government agencies, special precautions must be taken to get your order to you safely. Shipment of pepper spray is not allowed by plane (air mail), which is why we cannot offer faster shipping methods or delivery by the United States Postal Service (regular snail mail). UPS has proper procedures and precautions in place for using ground transportation services to get your order to you as quickly as possible.
UPS and FedEx are generally the only shipping services that authorize the shipment of pepper spray. The United States Postal Service does not have the shipping procedures in place to lawfully and safely ship pepper spray products. We have recently noticed a few online pepper spray stores using the United States Postal Service to ship pepper spray at a lower cost. What these retail stores and their customers don't know is they could be endangering thousands of postal service personnel, local citizens and airport staff by improperly shipping this specialized product. Own Defense Inc, however, is dedicated to using authorized shipping services to lawfully deliver your order safely.
